Bid to raise £100,000 to save the church of St Thomas a Becket in Framfield

AN APPEAL is to be launched to raise £100,000 to renovate the 800-year-old parish church of St Thomas à Becket in Framfield.

The appeal by The Friends of Framfield Church will be launched by the High Sheriff of East Sussex Kathy Gore at a special service to be held at 4pm on Sunday, 25 March.

All are welcome to attend this service to find out more about what is planned.

The church, a Grade II listed building, is in urgent need of repairs to stonework, windows and gutters, a new lighting system and complete internal decoration.

Chairman of The Friends, Peter Berry, said: “Our generation needs to get this work done now. If we don’t, future generations will be faced with an impossible task. We have already raised £20,000 but we need help to reach our £100,000 target.“

A range of fund-raising events is planned throughout the year, beginning with a concert by singer/songwriter Steve Knightley to be held at the church on 20 April.

Other plans include an open gardens summer event and an autumn exhibition.

The Friends hope that people throughout the parish and beyond will support the fundraising events.
