Seaford Bonfire Society is appealing for local businesses who can lend a hand with turfing and scaffolding.
The group said its efforts to returf and reseed the bonfire site at the Martello Fields had not worked, due to adverse weather, birds eating the seed and other factors.
This potentially means the society will lose its £1,000 deposit from Seaford Town Council.
An appeal from the group on Facebook said: “Due to bucket collections being very low on the 2013 night this will be very hard to recoup.
“Are there any landscaping businesses out there who would be prepared to help us out to help get our deposit back so we can continue with the event in future years in return for recognition in the programme and on our website?”
The bonfire society is also appealing for scaffolding it can use on the weekend of October 18, 2014.
If any scaffolders could donate time and poles for the Saturday night, the group said it would make a big difference.
The society added it would ensure appropriate thanks was given in the programme and on the website.
Last year the society mounted a spectacular display which included a ghost ship tableau pulled through the town and a further ship on the fire site which was used as a the backdrop for a reenacted battle.
The ship was later transformed into the society’s bonfire in a display which wowed spectators at the annual bonfire celebrations.
