An author has published a new book on the history of Fairlight.
The illustrated book is full of fascinating information about all aspects of the village. Including many colour photographs and maps, it traces the history of Fairlight from the days of the dinosaurs to the present, with stops along the way to consider smugglers, the Napoleonic threat and the impact of two world wars.
Among other stories it includes is how Fairlight Cove developed and tells the 1,000-year story of St Andrew’s Church. It pays tribute to the resilience under fire of the village school in the Second World War and to the courage of local folk in attending down the years to the many wrecks and rescues off the dangerous Fairlight coast.
The book explores Fairlight’s all-important agriculture and rural life as well as the story of its many historic farms and distinguished local houses such as Fairlight Hall, Fairlight Place and Fairlight Lodge. F
