Brainy Maresfield beauty’s hopes for Miss England

Have your say

MARESFIELD politics student Jo Ashley’s success in one of Britain’s top contests proves brains and beauty can go together.

Jo, 23, is now in the top 30 finalists in the South East regional competition for Miss England.

She auditioned at the South East Beauty Awards in Guildford and will go forward to the finals in the summer if enough people vote for her.

Jo attended Uckfield Community Technology College and studied politics and sociology at Southampton University. She’s hoping to take a gap year undertaking a voluntary project teaching in either in Nepal or Africa.

A sports-lover, she played lacrosse for the University, then discovered there was a college polo team. She said: “I’d never ridden before but I learnt quickly. I dare say you could say I can ride but ride in the polo way.”

Jo heard about the competition after meeting Miss Brighton and thought: “I’d quite like to do something like that.”

Now she’s hoping enough people vote for her so she can represent her town and county in the finals and friends are calling on past and present UCTC students to support her.
