BRIGHTON and Hove Albion’s new stadium is boosting calls for the Brighton Main Line 2 Project (BML2) to be taken seriously.
Expansion of the hugely successful Amex stadium demands better transport links between Falmer station and London.
Fans using the Brighton Line must change trains, whereas BML2 would connect directly to London and across the South East.
Ardent Albion supporter Lord Steve Bassam of Brighton says it’s “one of the reasons why I support the BML2 Plan”.
Now, Brighton MP Simon Kirby has approached Lord Bassam, suggesting a bi-partisan approach to raise BML2’s profile in political realms.
Having had a “constructive meeting” with Transport Minister Theresa Villiers last week about BML2, the Brighton MP paid warm tribute to those who have fought for this scheme over many years, but criticised the dismal lack of progress and backing it had received. “The time for action is now” he told the media.
