British Heart Foundation in Sussex appeals for help with Christmas rush

CHRISTMAS is the busiest time of year for charity shops and this year the nation’s heart charity,

The British Heart Foundation, is appealing for volunteers in East Sussex to lend a hand and make a real difference.

Debbie Dixon, manager for BHF Sussex shops said: “Volunteers are essential to our success and play a vital part in the fight against heart disease.

Last year BHF volunteers’ time was worth £42 million to the charity – a huge contribution.”

BHF Shops across Sussex need 360 volunteers this Christmas.

Their time could mean £187,920 and the fight against heart disease over the festive period.

With over 560 BHF Shops and 120 BHF furniture and electrical stores in the UK there is a lot to do. Sussex shops - which include Uckfield, Lewes, East Grinstead and two in Brighton - have roles available to suit everyone. From merchandising the range of Christmas gifts to selling Christmas cards; window dressing and helping with the Christmas raffle, all shop managers are keen to hear from people with a few hours to spare.

Debbie added: “The contribution our volunteers make is extraordinary – we simply couldn’t run our shops without their support.

“There are so many great opportunities available in our shops this Christmas. I’d really like to encourage people in Sussex to make a huge difference by giving the gift of time. Whether you can spare a couple of hours or a couple of days a week we’d love to hear from you. Your support is vital to us.”
