Business awards launched in Uckfield

MORE THAN 70 people attended a reception to launch the first-ever Uckfield Business Awards on Tuesday.

The event was sponsored and hosted by Marco Pierre White’s Chequers Hotel in Maresfield and among the guests were Uckfield Mayor, Cllr John Carvey; chairman of Wealden District Council, Cllr Jonica Fox; chairman of East Sussex County Council, Cllr Chris Dowling and the director of economy, transport and environment at East Sussex County Council, Rupert Clubb.

Businesses, large and small, in Uckfield and the surrounding area are now invited to celebrate their achievements by entering the awards. For some of the categories members of the public are being invited to nominate businesses they would like to see do well. There are 14 different categories ranging from Business of the Year to Best Dressed Window and Customer Service Award

During the launch Stewart Pearce from Parker Building Supplies, main sponsors of the awards, said they were very proud to be involved. He wished good luck to the organising committee and everybody taking part.

Wealden District Council leader, Cllr Bob Standley, said the awards were great in the way they linked the success of business with the community. He said: “We’d like to lend our support to these Awards. We want to work with business and invite local companies to engage with the Council. There are some amazing businesses in Wealden. Let’s fly the flag for those enterprises.” He said it was important to make sure firms doing well were known within the community. Awards winners will be announced at a ceremony at the East Sussex National on November 1, 2012.
