Civic and community leaders have welcomed the arrival in Eastbourne of a Danish company set to change the face of computing and online skills for older people.

Business leaders and politicians recently joined dukaPC to unveil its exciting products during a launch party at the Laptop Station in the Enterprise Centre.

But the real stars of the night were a group of test users from Eastbourne who have already featured in a promotional film.

Danish firm dukaPC has more than 20,000 users in Denmark and has chosen Eastbourne to launch the computers to the UK market, creating marketing and software development jobs for local people and within a telephone helpline centre as the business grows.

The company has already made a big impact in Scandinavia, offering simple to set up, safe and easy to use computers with an unlimited telephone support service. It means new internet users can get on online without having to rely on family and friends for help.

dukaPC’s CEO Erik Hougaard said, “Since we made the decision to invest in Eastbourne we have received the warmest welcome and it was terrific to see so many local people supporting the launch.”

Caroline Ansell, MP for Eastbourne and Willingdon, said, “I’m very keen to attract more businesses to the town and the launch of dukaPC is a great start. I wish the team well and will be closely following the company’s progress in Eastbourne and beyond.”

Other speakers included Graham Walker, CEO of dukaPC’s UK operations, David Tutt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council and Tim Cobb, president of Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce. The computers are now on sale in The Laptop Station and have already been a success with its test users.

Dickie Bird, a test user from Eastbourne, said, “I am really enjoying using my computer. It’s been great to keep in touch with my family and friends and I can’t believe how simple it is.” Visit http://www.dukapc.com/ or call 01323 332181 to order a brochure.
