Peacehaven Town Council and The Big Parks project have announced new proprietors for the Gateway Cafe.

A spokesperson for the project said: “We were looking for someone with a real understanding of what the community needs and a solid background in hospitality to deliver a fantastic service and great food. We feel we have found the perfect team in Nicola and Sophia and on December 5, they will open the doors of the Gateway Cafe to meet the public.”

Nicola and Sophia Papanicolaou are a mother and daughter team with extended family connections in the area. They have a long family tradition of providing hospitality, from restaurants to bars to community catering.

Nicola uses the park regularly to walk her dog and to visit the playground with her grandchildren. She often passed the cafe and thought it had so much potential.

Manager Nicola is passionate about real food and is keen to reflect this in her menu. She will not be using frozen food or ingredients, such as reconstituted meat.

She also understands many people have special dietary needs and wants to make her menu as inclusive as possible by offering lactose and gluten free options.

She is also hoping to work with community transport organisations to bring more isolated community members to the park.

The pair already have some fresh ideas, from book clubs, to landscape painting groups and early evening children’s parties.
