FRUSTRATED neighbours have voiced fury at plans to build a new reycling plant in the Hailsham/Polegate area - but the company responsible has called for public support.

Colin Holloway of Haulaway Ltd in Apex Way, Hailsham, wants to set up an inert recyling operation for up to 45,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste per year.

The operation would be set up at the vacant Polegate Yard in Coldthorn Lane, Hailsham, acquired by the applicant in 2010.

Residents are concerned about the volume of lorries and also alleged noise pollution.

But the company said it was committed to recycling and was ‘devastated by the level of opposition we are encountering’.
