Car fire drama near Lower Dicker

A CAR caught fire near the Boship Roundabout at the A22 Lower Dicker last night, July 20.

The driver of the blue Skoda pulled off the road onto the grass verge near the junction with Coldharbour Road after smelling smoke in the vehicle around 6pm. Fortunately the driver escaped without injuries.

Some 13 phone calls were made by the public to emergency services.

A fire engine from Hailsham raced to the scene and arrived at 6.14pm to put out the fire with foam. Police were also there.

One passer-by, who did not want to be named, said: “It was really blazing, like something out of a film.”

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
