Cause of ‘serious fire’ in Heathfield confirmed

The investigation into the ‘serious’ fire in Heathfield last night has been completed.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue and Sussex Police have confirmed that the most likely cause of the fire in Station Road was deliberate.

Eight fire engines were called to the scene, where a derelict mill was set alight, following dozens of calls from the public at approximately 23.19pm.

At the height of the incident, crews from eight appliances were tackling the fire with jets and hydrants.

Firefighters worked through the night to scale back the operation, and as of 4.30am this morning two fire engines remained at the scene working as relief crews.

Nobody was hurt in the blaze.

SEACamb and Sussex Police also attended the scene.
