A local quiz team have donated a CCTV security system to Peacehaven and Telscombe Football Club in the wake of its break-in earlier this month.
The Bells Club quiz team gave the equipment to the club after burglars broke into The Sports Park, in Piddinghoe Avenue, some time between Tuesday night (February 9) and Wednesday morning (February 10), and stole hundreds of pounds worth of soft drinks and sweets from inside.
The intruders also caused significant damage to the building, leading to costly repairs for the local club.
Since making the news public, the football club has been inundated with messages of support and hundreds of pounds in donations to help cover the cost of repairs.
The CCTV security system is the latest in a line of kind gestures to help the football club following the break-in, and the cameras have since been installed in and around the club house to help deter or catch any future burglars.
Acting chairman Sue Norwood said: “I’d like to thank Peacehaven Bells Club quiz team for their donation of a CCTV camera system. We are truly grateful.”
In a statement posted on the club’s website in response to the community’s support, Dan Palmer said: “When I put this out [news of the break-in], I wasn’t expecting anything, I just wanted to let our community know what had happened.
“It really does restore your faith when people step forward like this.”
Acting chairman Sue Norwood said: “The club has a dedicated group of volunteers that work extremely hard just to keep football in Peacehaven.
“When something like this happens it’s a real hammer blow, but to know there are lots of caring and thoughtful people who think as much of the club as we do and want to keep football in Peacehaven, is heartening indeed.”
So far, more than £200 has been donated. For more information, contact Dan Palmer on 07713 907630.
