Seasonal celebrations in Hailsham are set to be more exciting than ever as the town gears up to put on a ‘fantastic’ line up of events.

The Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place at 5pm today (Saturday November 22).

There will be carols and festive refreshments and the winner of the Best Christmas Pizza Design competition will turn on the lights, alongside Mayor of Hailsham Cllr Jo Bentley.

Entertainment will be provided directly before and after the switch on in Vicarage Field, including performances from Hailsham Community College students and Grovelands Primary School pupils from 4.45pm to 5.15pm. Father Christmas will also be in attendance accepting letters from children from 4pm until 5.30pm.

Hailsham Christmas Market will also return on December 6. It will take place in Vicarage Field from 10am until 4pm. There will be 50 stalls selling Christmas gifts, decorations, cards, cakes, jewellery, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, candy floss and mince pies. There will be a full programme of festive entertainment including special performances from the Jazz Caverners, Hailsham Choral Society, Herstmonceux Jazz and Rock Choir, The Memphis Flyers and pupils of Hailsham Community College. Santa and his Sleigh will be outside the Quintins Centre for the children courtesy of Hailsham Rotary Club, as well as a Reindeer Rodeo in Vicarage Field. A road closure will be put in place in the High Street between 4am and 9am to erect the stalls and 4pm to 9pm to take them down.
