THE DIRECTOR of Calendar Girls and Made in Dagenham will be offering a question and answer session at the gala opening of Seaford Community Cinema.
Nigel Cole will also introduce his new film All in Good Time at the exciting event on Friday September 21 at the Barn Theatre in Saxon Lane.
Setting up the cinema means residents will be able to go to the movies in Seaford, instead of travelling long distances to Brighton Marina or Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne.
Cinema spokesperson Christine Richardson added: “It’s just marvellous to have the director of the film that we are showing taking part.
“It just feels so special. It’s so generous of him to give up his time and to take an interest in his local community.”
All in Good Time (out on DVD on September 24) is set in Bolton. It tells the story of Atul and Vina who are looking forward to a honeymoon in the sun, but their bonds are tested to the limit by subsequent events.
Seaford Community Cinema is run by volunteers and is a not-for-profit organisation.
The committee applied for an Awards For All Lottery Grant in 2011 and received a generous grant to purchase an HD projector and 5m screen.
A grant was received from Sussex Community Foundation which enabled it to meet the initial costs for publicity and insurance.
More funding will come from ticket sales and membership subscriptions to support the programme of events, website and equipment.
Films will include new releases, world cinema and children’s films. A kiosk will sell refreshments and sweets.
The idea to set up the cinema originated from a committee member who had moved to Seaford from Lewes, where there was already a film club and cinema, and decided Seaford could do with its own cinema too.
Christine added: “It will be convenient, people will probably walk and it’s a very short drive and hopefully it will be a nice place to meet your friends.”
To put your questions to Nigel for the question and answer session, buy tickets or find out more visit www.seafordcinema.org. Advance tickets will also be available from Seaford Tourist Office.
Tickets and membership will be available on the door at performances but for the gala opening it is advisable to book in advance.
