Commuters faced rush hour chaos this evening as a serious accident on the A259 at Bishopstone, coupled with cancelled trains from Brighton, meant Seaford was all but cut off for travellers.

With no way for buses or trains to get to Seaford from the Lewes or Brighton side, many commuters decided to finish their journey to Seaford by foot from Newhaven.

The A259 was closed by police between the Avis Road roundabout at Denton (pictured) and the junction with Claremont Road in Seaford.
