Christmas events begin in Wealden this weekend

THIS WEEKEND and next week sees the start of Christmas events, markets and shopping evenings in Wealden.

A Christmas market is being held on Tuesday, December 6 from 1-4pm at the Hailsham East Community Centre by East Sussex Fire and Rescue, Sussex Police, Wealden District Council and the Safer Wealden Partnership.

There will be advice and support for senior citizens and a short sketch on distraction burglary, advice on benefits, healthy eating, crime prevention, free energy saving gadgets and much more.

On Friday evening there will be an arts and crafts fair organised by Nutley Horticultural society at Nutley Memorial Hall from 7.30pm.

A wood turner, spinner and quilters will be demonstrating their crafts. There will also be handmade cards, planted flower bulbs for Christmas, lots of crafts and cakes and refreshments.

Also on Friday evening, Maresfield will be dressed overall in colour and light for the village’s Christmas shopping evening. Once again there will be plenty of refreshments and shops will be throwing open their doors as well as offering mince pies, mulled wine and lots more besides.

On Sunday at 2.30pm the Sussex Association of Bonfire and Carnival Societies stages its annual parade up the High Street for a service at Holy Cross Church. Marching will be members of the Uckfield Scout Band, the Heathfield Silver Band and representatives from Bonfire Societies from Uckfield itself, Lewes, Crowborough, Burgess Hill and Seaford. Proceeds from the event will be donated half to the Sussex air Ambulance and half to Holy Cross Church.
