An inquest is likely to decide on the tragic circumstances
which led to the death of a man in a Lewes street.
The body of Allen Rollinson, 51, of no fixed abode, was discovered on Christmas Day.
Police said he was lying beside a bench at the bottom of Station Street and sadly was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “His death is unexplained but not suspicious and the matter has been referred to the Coroner’s Officer.”
The tragedy has caused disquiet in Lewes. The woman who found Mr Rollinson, and alerted emergency services, said people must have walked or driven past him.
The woman, who preferred not to be named, spotted him from her car. She said: “I thought he looked very unwell so pulled up round the corner. I thought he looked dead but I heard a noise so called an ambulance. Although it was very quiet being Christmas Day, I think he had been there a little while and people must have driven past him and walked past him.
“I am incredibly sad that he died alone and was clearly a desperate and broken man. I am left wondering what we as a community can do to prevent anything like this from happening again.”
