CIVIC AWARDS were proudly given out to folk in Polegate who have served the community.

This year three civic awards were presented to Joan Shoesmith, The Steer Family and Jim Dobell.

Joan Shoesmith has just celebrated her Golden Anniversary with husband John. They both moved the same year of marriage, in 1961, to Polegate. Mrs Shoesmith has been very involved as a community association founder member, holding most of the posts.

The Steer family’s links with scouting goes back to 1915 and are involved with the 1st Polegate Scouts and Brownie Guides as leaders.

Jim Dobell has volunteered for the town for more than 50 years and joined the community association in 1965.

Allotment Winners: 1st Prize Mr D Gausden; 2nd Mr & Mrs Baulcombe; 3rd Prize Mr J Fuller (unable to attend).

Best Newcomer: Ms Jem Holm

Best Garden winners: 1st prize Mrs Kenward Greenleaf Gardens; 2nd prize Mrs Thorpe Northfield, 3rd Prize Mr J Green West Close.
