The headteacher of Heathfield Community College agreed to shave off his moustache of more than 30 years if a group of staff raised £1,000 for Movember.
Of course, the team, led by Ross Gardner, set to work on fundraising and completely smashed Alan Powell’s target, raising £1,233 on the Movember website.
So last week Alan and the team had the Big Shave at breaktime on Wednesday.
Ex students Glen Wooden and Sophia Ryan, who are barbers at Headworks in Heathfield, closed their shop for an hour to go to the College to shave off the headteacher’s moustache, along with five other teachers.
The moustaches were shaved with clapping and cheering from the very enthusiastic students who were charged £1 to watch The Big Shave.
More than £240 was raised from the entry fee, which will be split between Movember and the Year 11 Ball next summer.
MoSisters Gill Nicholls, Carolyn Abbott and Kath Johns helped by raising nearly £300 towards this target by holding a cake sale and selling hot chocolate (and trimmings) and cake during morning breaks.
The Movember website is at http://uk.movember.com/team/637209
The team’s motivation was ‘To change the face of men’s health’.
During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world.
The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Each Mo Bro must begin the 1st of Movember clean shaven and grow and groom a moustache for a month.
