Hailsham Town Council will contribute funds towards this year’s Hailsham Festival of Arts and Culture in September.
The funding is coming from the remainder of the council’s community grants budget after the festival organisers requested additional support.
The Festival of Arts and Culture is one of the highlights of the town’s events calendar, and attracts top artists and performers from the south east.
It also offers a wide variety of exhibits and performances to suit all tastes.
The nine-day series of events will take place at various locations in and around Hailsham from September 7 to September 15 and is being organised by local businesses, Gallery North and other project partners.
The multi-cultural festival this year highlights the energy and diversity of African music and dance. European early music, jazz, Cajun and various classical concerts are also included in the programme.
There will also be poetry, drama, art exhibitions, film competitions, workshops, children’s events and a newly extended art trail.
Cllr Jo Bentley, Mayor of Hailsham and Chairman of the town council’s Festivities and Events Committee, said: “The town council is delighted to contribute towards making Hailsham a thriving cultural centre by providing funding support for the festival as appropriate.
“Organisers are busy putting together a series of events that mean something to everyone who lives here and of course attract audiences from the surrounding towns and villages.
“I am very proud of what they have managed to achieve. It goes to show what communities can achieve when energies, skills and funding are pooled.”
