The forthcoming Societies Fair in Lewes will feature a display by the Phoenix Rising group.

Members will be in the Corn Exchange at Lewes Town Hall on Saturday, July 5, to display their plans for the North Street Quarter.

The group recently held a public meeting to discuss alternative ideas for the site which developers Santon has been consulting on.

Chelsea Renton described Phoenix Rising as: “A community-led bid to acquire a large portion of the Phoenix development area for the purpose of building not-for-profit genuinely affordable housing and renovating and building workspace for manufacturing and creative industries.

“The Phoenix Rising outline plan has more than 500 signatories to date and is currently being worked up into a full planning application.”

The display will allow local people to comment.

The annual Societies Fair, in the Assembly Room from 10am until 1pm, gives people the chance to find out more about the host of groups, clubs and societies which have booked tables to show what’s on offer in the county town. After the hall hire has been paid any surplus money will go to Lewes Victoria Hospital.
