Before building work really gets off the ground at the Big Park in Peacehaven, a walking and cycling event will be staged called the Big Day Out.
It will take place on Saturday July 19 at Piddinghoe Sports Park from 11am to 4pm.
Organisers have set up the event to encourage people to use Peacehaven as a gateway to the South Downs National Park.
The event will promote walking and cycling with guides on hand to lead the public on specially designed routes.
Cycle Seahaven will lead the more experienced riders whilst So Sussex will be providing a pop up bike hire service for those who simply want to give it a go.
Sustrans will also be leading a bike train for children with trained stewards.
Communications officer for the Big Parks Project Michelle Porter said: “ We want the event to be family friendly so scooters and bikes will be on hand for our lively preschoolers.
“We have also invited THINKBIKE! BMX stunt display team to wow and inspire the kids.”
For those who like a more leisurely pace there will be some themed walks including an archeology walk by Archeology South East and a nature walk.
This will be a fun day for the whole family with a free picnic for the children, while stocks last, face painting, bike maintenance workshops and bike related games by Smarter Living network.
The Big Parks Project will also be on hand to answer residents’ questions on how the park will develop over the coming months.
