More than 50 students from Sussex Downs Lewes College attended the highly acclaimed Royal Opera House Design Challenge 2014 Awards event in Covent Garden.

The trip was the culmination of an exciting and intense three-month process embarked on by the Production Arts, Art and Media Departments at the college to produce entries in five categories.

These were Set Design, Costume Design, Marketing Strategy, Digital Learning Resource and Hair, Wigs and Make-up Design. There were more than 400 entries from all over the UK – and 12 of the finalists were from Sussex Downs Lewes College.

The talented dozen, Ollie Jagot, Llona Dearden, Ruby Carroll, Chloe Hoppen, Emma Russell, Ellie Goddard, Vicky Oakes, Alice O’Hara, Genie Gosden-Bird, Po Wong, Ryan Burton and Sophie Peters, were contenders for four out of the five categories.

The highlight of the day was when Ollie, who is studying BTEC level 3 Certificate in Production Arts, was announced as one of the five winners of a Design Challenge award, coming out top in the Set Design category.
