Lewes District Council has launched the Lewes District Business Awards, a free-to-enter new initiative celebrating excellence among the area’s business community.
Ten trophies are up for grabs, including the prestigious Company of the Year and Best Independent Retailer, with special awards to recognise innovation and entrepreneurship.
There is a category for every type of business: Company of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Businessperson of the Year, LEAP Entrepreneur of the Year, Award for Business Innovation, Award for Business in the Community, Award for Clean, Green and Marine, Award for Best Place to Visit, Award for Best Independent Retailer, Award for Social Enterprise.
Sponsors include The Santon Group, Knill James, Veolia Environmental Services, Wave Leisure, Basepoint Business Centres, LEAP, Harvey & Son Ltd, The Aldridge Foundation, Lewes District Council and Viva Lewes.
The panel of judges will be chaired by Hugh Burnett, a Chartered Accountant with a background in IT and retail systems who has spent much of his career developing small businesses in that sector.
He said: “We are very proud to be launching the first ever Awards for the District. This is a great opportunity to highlight some of the outstanding businesses in the Lewes District.”

The awards ceremony will take place on April 24 2014 at Lewes Town Hall and will be attended by more than 200 of the District’s leading business people.
