It will go on the market to generate funds for ambitious shake-up plans.

The money will be invested in Cross Way Church’s move to a new Christian home at the Clinton Centre building, former home of the United Reformed Church.

This will make the Clinton Centre a combined church and community outreach project. Church Secretary Hugh Chapman said: “The Church Executive has been working on this plan for almost two years and believes that turning the Clinton Centre into a dual purpose building will help both the church and the community, while freeing the church from trying to maintain both buildings and allowing us to concentrate our efforts on outreach in the town.”

Cross Way Church this month unveiled exciting new plans to upgrade and modernise the Clinton Place venue, which serves as a community centre for the town.  This work is expected to be carried out during the next 18 months.

Minister the Rev Rose Westwood said: “When completed, we believe the facilities envisaged will make this a building the community will be happy to use and the church better placed for its work in the community.”

The upgraded building will have a new covered entrance in Clinton Place, with a lift for the disabled or infirm, leading to Blatchington Hall, and the Sanctuary, within Clinton Hall. A new storage area is envisaged leading from the Blatchington Hall, which will also have new double glazed windows and a re-covered roof. A new access will be created directly leading into the Sanctuary from the Blatchington Hall. From the new front entrance you will go directly into the Sanctuary, Clinton Hall.

The Sanctuary’s ‘old balcony’, that is no longer used, will be removed with upgrading to the internal structure of the building.

The front of the building will also look very different. The existing railings and front door on Clinton Place will be removed and a window inserted in the door space giving the building’s appearance a more attractive look and one that the public will at last see as a working building being used by all.

Cross Way Church is a Methodist and United Reformed Church local ecumenical partnership working in the community.
