Gallery North, Hailsham, is staging a colourful show of 24 abstract paintings by the artist Robert Sparkes.

Robert said two of the large scale paintings, that stand out in the exhibition, were inspired from visits to Spain, and are bold and free in the use of colour and texture. He said: “The vibrancy of the work really comes alive in the gallery setting. Standing before these works you can easily contemplate the warmth, colour and delight of cities like Barcelona, where the towers of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral and buildings in the Montjuic region of the city bear some influence on those bright abstracts.”

The artist said he feels that these abstract works are essentially best enjoyed with non-representational thoughts and it is important to view the works using all your senses.

He was Fine Art trained and said he came into contact with Patrick Heron and Albert Irvin, famous 21st century painters that had some influence in the bold use of colour, which is evident in his show. All works are for sale and the exhibition continues until April 26, Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am until 4pm.
