Work will start on the Community Space Garden at the Lewes Road Recreation Ground in Newhaven on Thursday August 7.

CRB Builders will be installing a wheelchair friendly path and raised beds outside the Lewes Road Hut.

They will also be put up fencing to keep rabbits out and children and toddlers in when activities are taking place.

The builders will carry out earth moving and levelling. Work will finish on Friday August 22.

Improvements will be carried out from 8am to 4.30pm, from Monday to Friday.

The scheme is being led by Newhaven Community Development Association (NCDA).

Open spaces development worker for NCDA Jessie Rodriguez said: “We have gathered some views from the community.

“People have told us they want to grow fruit and veg to eat and plant and sow wildlife friendly flowers and plants.

“They want family friendly gardening activities and other groups such as for art workshops or story telling to use the space.

“We will be organising further events including engagement and consultation, volunteers days and of course and an opening event.”
