The Road to Rio will be the theme of this year’s Family Sports and Fun Day challenge taking place in Denton, in celebration of the World Cup being staged in Brazil.
It will raise money for the James Daniels Memorial Trust, set up to support sports clubs and sports in schools after the death of a local boy, aged 19.
Money will also go to the Friends and Associates of Denton School and St Leonard’s Church, in Denton, which dates back to 1288, with walls of flint and stone.
The free Denton Challenge will be held on Saturday June 7 at Avis Road Recreation Ground.
Participants can look forward to challenges and entertainment for all ages provided free by local sports clubs and charities.
Visitors can also expect arena events such as dog agility, drumming and dancing, as well as a model steam engine, climbing wall and a bouncy castle.
There will be a tug of war, a beer tent and community and charity stalls.
The day will finish with a community barbecue.
The Denton Challenge will be held from 1pm to 5pm
A Craft Fair will run at the same time at the Denton Island Community Centre, on Denton Island, from 1pm-5pm.
Admission will be free.
