Historic Firle Place flings open its doors to lovers of the rural way of life on Sunday, August 31.
Nearly 600 riders, more than 1,000 dogs and up to 10,000 visitors will descend on the magnificent Sussex estate for the award-winning Firle Place International Horse Trials, Country Fair and Dog Festival.
Voted South East Eventers League Event of the Year in 2012 and 2013, it offers a great day out for all the family ... and their dogs.
Now in its 38th year at the 5,000-acre estate, the event includes something for everyone. Horse lovers will enjoy the world-class dressage, show jumping and cross country riding.
It’s combined with some excellent shopping featuring more than 40 Weald Craft exhibitors, 60 exhibitor and Farmers’ Market stalls and a Harveys Bar.
The Horsemart CIC and Chelwood Equestrian CIC classes have attracted record entries, with more than 90 riders competing over two days to win these coveted titles. They will all be tackling the challenging cross country course on Sunday morning.
Added to that, on Sunday the Country Fair and Dog Festival offers fun for all the family. New for this year, the Dog Festival includes a ‘My Dog Has Talent’ contest, and owners will relish the huge variety of dog competitions, including a Kennel Club Companion Dog Show, high octane gundog scurries and terrier racing, longdog racing and a lurcher show, plus lots of special classes for children to compete their dogs.
Run in aid of Hope In the Valley Riding for the Disabled and the Breast Cancer Campaign, the Country Fair also offers licensed bars, food outlets, Punch and Judy, and have-a-go archery as well as a wide range of exhibitors.
Organiser Jo Carr said: “Stunning Firle Place is the perfect backdrop to this hugely popular event. Following extensive renovations, the 15th century stately home’s art collection and tea room are also open to the public. Bring the family and the dogs for a great day out in this historic country setting.”
Gates open at 9am. Entry on Sunday is just £10 per car including all occupants. Visit www.firleplaceevent.co.uk
