An extra 5,000 people have signed up for Wealden District Council’s garden waste collections.
Cllr Rowena Moore, Cabinet member for Customer Services, said: “It is great news that many more residents want to join our garden waste collection scheme for the start of the gardening year.
“With some 48,000 households now taking part it means 73 per cent of all Wealden households are using their garden waste to create compost which can then be used to nourish gardens in the future.
“Many other households also compost their own garden waste at home and this is also an excellent way of reusing resources.
“Kier, our waste collection partner, is delivering new brown bins in March to the 5,000 extra households that have signed up for the service.”
The new expanded garden waste collections will start on the weeks beginning April 7 and April 14.
