A new walking festival is to be launched by Wealden District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council.
Working with walking groups and special interest organisations, the two councils have launched Coast and Country, which starts on September 27.
The walking festival aims to encourage residents and visitors to take up walking as a way of staying healthy while at the same time enjoying the stunning countryside and coastline.
Groups and people from further afield are invited to organise and lead walks which focus on seafronts, promenades, the downs, and villages of East Sussex from the coast through to the High Weald.
The event aims to offer personal challenges, new perspectives, fun, quirky and special interest walks to suit all tastes and fitness levels.
Both councils are inviting walking groups and organisations to sign up to take part in Coast and Country to join those already registered.
The first weekend of the event is September 27 to 28 and will focus on Eastbourne, the seafront, the Downs and nearby villages. The second event on the weekend of 4 and 5 October will move north through Wealden and on to the North Weald.
Cllr Claire Dowling, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Safety for Wealden District Council, said: “Walking has so much to offer in terms of fitness and enjoyment.
“We hope organisations with an interest in walking and the countryside will share their ideas with Eastbourne and Wealden so we can encourage as many people as possible to take part.”
