A Hailsham man who admitted being racially abusive as fined £100 at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday May 14.
Allan Graham Morris, 37, unemployed, of Fletcher Close, pleaded guilty to an offence of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress.
Police said his victim was an Asian shop security guard who was off duty and walking to catch a bus in Terminus Road, Eastbourne, on April 17 when Morris’s friend asked him for change.
He was unable to oblige and Morris became racially abusive.
Morris was also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge within 14 days.
After the hearing, Sergeant Peter Allan, Sussex Police hate crime sergeant, said: “Morris’s conviction sends out a clear signal that we will take a robust approach to those who target individuals based on their race, disability, gender identity, religion or sexual orientation.
