Headway Hurstwood Park, the East Sussex charity supporting those affected by brain injury, were chosen as charity of the year for the Lewes Beer Festival held at Lewes Town Hall in June.

A spokeswoman said the charity threw themselves into the event by making their own vegetable crisps, beer nuts and pork scratchings for sale.

Together with money collected from unused beer coupons, the event raised a fantastic £1,200 which will go towards running the telephone advice and support service.

Event organiser Mark Tester handed a cheque over to Michele Fleming, CEO.

The charity has other fund raising events in the pipeline, the next being Harvest Festival on September 20, at their Newick Centre, between noon and 3pm.

Michele Fleming said: “We are hoping to build on last year’s successful event and this year there will a variety of stalls, a fun dog show, birds of prey, BBQ and children’s activities - so definitely a date for your diary.”
