Heathfield residents woke up on February 21 to find jagged scratches down the side of their cars.
Sussex Police say that between February 18 and 21, 19 cars had been deliberately damaged in the town. Most were parked in the Ghyll Road, Tilsmore Road and Sheepsetting Lane areas.
One was damaged while parked in Hailsham Road and another in Marshlands Road. The damage on each were large scratches which appear to have been caused by a knife or a similar sharp tool.
The window of one High Street shop was broken which, police believe, may be linked to the criminal damage to the cars. Police have CCTV images which they are looking into.
PS Hammerton, of the Heathfield neighbourhood policing team, said: “This is an unusual occurrence in Heathfield. We have no reason to think there is any link between the victims of this crime nor was there any link between the type of vehicles.
“The damage was deliberate and we would welcome information that would lead to the conviction of the offender responsible for this cowardly and malicious crime.”
Anyone with information should call the Heathfield NPT team on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on: 0800 555111.
