Lewes and District Round Table is delighted to confirm its annual raft race will go ahead on the revised date of Sunday, September 7.
Event organiser Matt Craig had been concerned the challenging event may have to be cancelled due to inadequate interest. But local people have rallied and risen to the challenge now that they are back from their summer holidays.
Among this year’s brave entrants in the race down the River Ouse from Lewes to Newhaven will be Isfield and Little Horsted Bonfire Society, turning out in Yellow Peril to raise funds for Hope in the Valley riding for the disabled, while Water Aid is the good cause of Tom Clark and his young crew.
They will be aboard ‘Kit-Kat-omaran’, an appropriate name as this year’s theme is Confectionery.
Brewers of Brighton are set to make a big splash having been planning and preparing their raft ‘Drifter’ for several months while at the same time gathering significant sponsorship from their many customers to support the local children’s cancer charity, Rocking Horse.
Raising money for the same good cause will be Seaford-based plumbing and heating engineers Chris Hatcher and Son, who are no doubt praying they don’t have a leaky vessel!
Last minute entries are still being taken. Contact organiser Matt and do your bit for your chosen good cause. Get in touch on 01273 813093 or via firstname.lastname@example.org
