Luke, hoping to make it to the Olympics as a 400m runner, put the students through their paces on Thursday with a fitness training circuit and talked to them about hopes for this year’s Games in Rio. His enthusiastic audience was thrilled to hear he had just come back from training with Usain Bolt in Jamaica.

Joe Goldberg, PE leader said: “Luke’s visit was a great experience for students. They learned that even a top athlete has experienced failure on his way to success. His ‘never give up’ approach was relevant to so many students who struggle to overcome difficulties in sport, school and in life.”

Luke is trained by Olympic Champion Linford Christie and is one of Britain’s most exciting talents on the track. At the age of 23, he has already claimed Silver at the World and European Indoors and European Championships.

The event was organised as part of the Sports for Schools programme aiming to inspire pupils to take up sport and importantly encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life. As well students were sponsored to take art in circuit training, raising money for school sports equipment and Team GB athletes.

Northease Manor is a co-ed secondary school for potentially able students with Specific Learning Difficulties helping individuals who are dyslexic, dyscalculic, dyspraxic and who may also be on the autistic spectrum, have ADD, ADHD, social and communication difficulties and Aspergers syndrome.
