Local Newspaper Week is an annual initiative by the industry and the Newspaper Society to highlight the important role played by local papers in communities across the UK.
Running until Sunday (May 18), this year’s week will see the launch of a new campaign called Making a Difference which will showcase the ability of local media to make a difference to the lives of ordinary individuals in a way that no other media can.
The Sussex Express regularly features rescues by our local lifeboat institute which is a life saving charity entirely dependent on donations from the public.
RNLI volunteers make a difference by risking their lives daily to save the lives of others.
Here we feature an interview with one such hero, RNLI coxswain Paul Legendre of Newhaven Lifeboat who has recently received one of the RNLI’s highest accolades for his role in the search for Dylan Alkins.
Paul Legendre’s skill and bravery were praised following the six hour search for the 14-year-old who disappeared from West Beach during atrocious sea conditions.
