Pedal power: Mayo Wynne Baxter staff rose to the challenge of visiting six of the firms offices by bike

Staff at Sussex solicitors Mayo Wynne Baxter (MWB) have gone more than the extra mile for their sponsored charity Macmillan Sussex.

In fact some of them pushed their pedals for 100 miles to raise money for the cancer charity.

Trainee solicitor Jo Ironside, 30, decided to get the firm’s fundraising off to an impressive start by organising a bike ride between six of the firm’s offices.

Beginning at the Dyke Road office in Brighton at 7am, the first batch of cyclists pedalled 13.7 miles to the firm’s Seaford office. From there, some continued and some joined in from Seaford to Eastbourne.

The third and possibly the toughest leg was from Eastbourne to Forest Row, an impressive 29.2 miles which took about three hours. From there it was on to East Grinstead, then on to Lewes and eventually back to Brighton.

Jo said: “I came up with the idea for the Tour de MWB to support Macmillan because we wanted our first event for them to be challenging and inclusive of all of our staff – cycling around all our offices seemed like a great way to do both!”

Staff that didn’t cycle were at each office to welcome the cyclists and make sure they were stocked up with refreshments, especially cakes.

Sarah Coxhill, of Macmillan, said: “We’re so thrilled the staff at Mayo Wynne Baxter have come up with such a fantastic bespoke fundraising idea ... what a driven team they are!”
