There is just over a week to go before the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on March 23, being organised this year in both Horam and Crowborough.
This national event has hit the big time and will be extensively covered on television. On Friday, March 21 the BBC stages a special night of Sport Relief TV with presenters Gary Lineker, Davina McCall, David Walliams, Claudia Winkleman, Jack Whitehall among others.
Del Boy and Rodney will be back on TV screens two after 10 years with a special Only Fools and Horses Sport Relief sketch featuring one of the show’s biggest fans, David Beckham.
Horam District councillor Susan Stedman said: “We are thrilled our village is taking part in such a huge event.
“This really says something about Horam and it’s the fourth time I’ve organised the event in conjunction with Horam Parish Council. It starts at noon but you should aim to be there at 10.30am to sign in and warm up. You don’t have to be super-fit - there’s a one, three and six mile course, all along the Cuckoo Trail, so it’s easy going. Let’s show the rest of the country what we can do and raise as much as we possibly can for this incredible cause.”
The Crowborough event begins at Freedom Leisure’s Crowborough Leisure Centre at 10am where there will also be a range of distances.
Manager Michaela Rouy said: “From teeny-tots with mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there’s something for everyone. 2012 was a great success but this year we want to make the day even bigger and better. Come on Crowborough, pull up your Sport Relief socks and do something amazing.”
