The proposed second Brighton mainline rail scheme BML2 was the subject of a rail network meeting last week.
Conservative Parliamentary candidates Nus Ghani (Wealden) and Maria Caulfield (Lewes) welcomed proposals put forward by project manager Brian Hart.
He explained: “BM2L is uniquely placed to increase rail capacity by transforming and renewing the Uckfield line’s former connections between the Sussex Coast and London. This is a project which secures the region’s future prosperity, whilst protecting its precious environment. We are therefore delighted the Government has asked Network Rail to fully consider BML2 in its forthcoming strategy for Sussex.”
Commenting on the meeting, Nus said: “The meeting was an opportunity to hear about the much-needed investment in long term rail infrastructure as both Maria and myself want to see investment in the Sussex lines that meet the needs of local commuters. I will continue the good work of Charles Hendry MP who has already delivered in Uckfield, with investment into the station and car park, and fight for greater transport investment.”
Maria and Nus will continue to apply pressure on Network Rail and the Department for Transport as they feel Wealden and Lewes are currently poorly served by the network.
