Charities in Newhaven were amongst some of the groups across Sussex to benefit from a funding boost.

Sussex Community Foundation announced its grants awards last week, with Newhaven Home Start South Downs receiving £4,892.

Home-Start helps families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. Newhaven Young People’s Forum was given a grant of £2,750.

The forum is the voice of young people in the town and raises money for projects.

A total of £154,220 was distributed to 55 Sussex charities and community groups.

Programmes manager Mary Carruthers said: “Once again, we’re delighted to bring together our generous Sussex donors and the groups that need their funding,

“The monetary value of the grants is substantial but the value to the Sussex communities supported by the groups receiving them is far, far greater.”

Sussex Community Foundation is a major funder of charities and community groups in Sussex.
