Restaurant damaged by fire in Polegate reopens

A pub which was damaged by fire last year has reopened its doors to the public.

The Old Polegate Station closed for four months after the fire which broke out on September 23 last year.

The fire started in a bottle cooler which damaged the surrounding area and smoke badly damaged the restaurant. But it did not reach the living accomodation downstairs.

The restaurant has now been repaired and the damaged curtains and wallpaper replaced.

The blaze saw 15 firefighters battle the flames after reports of smoke billowing from the building. The restaurant is housed in the original Victorian Polegate Station building.

The Old Polegate Station building was the second station built in Polegate in 1881. It was opened in connection with the construction of a new westward facing line to Hailsham and the 1880 extension of the Cuckoo Line to Eridge.
