A community radio station will pay tribute to Freeman of Seaford Don Mabey in a special show on Saturday March 8.
Bob Peedle MBE will present the show on Seahaven FM in a celebration of his life.
It will feature many guests from far and wide talking about Don’s life and service.
Don was a World War II veteran and made more than 80 missions as a wireless operator and air gunner in the Wellington and Warwick bombers during the war.
In later life he raised thousands of pounds for the RAF and other charities.
He was awarded the MBE by the Queen in the New Year’s honours list in 2013 for his years of fundraising for the RAF.
Bob previously presented Forces on Parade on Seahaven FM until November 2012.
Station manager Nick Mallinson said: “Bob’s show always had lots of guests talking about their lives in the services and their local connections.
“From time to time Don was one of those guests and the stories he had to tell were astonishing.
“It is only by listening to people like Don that you get any kind of idea of what it was like back in the war years in 1940s.
“It is a huge privilege to have Bob back to do this tribute for Don.”
You can hear the show this Saturday afternoon (March 8) at 3pm on Seahaven FM.
Bob said: “It was the idea of Nick Mallinson, the station manager - he rang and asked me if I would like to do it and of course as Don was a very dear friend, I said yes please.
“I felt it was a great privilege to be asked to present this tribute to Don.
“I have tributes to broadcast from such as the lord lieutenant, the Seaford mayor and two former mayors as well as friends from the Golf Club, RAFA and of course St George.”
