It rained, and then it rained harder! But the wet weather failed to deter thousands who flocked to Heathfield for Le Marche, Heathfield’s Anglo French market.

Station Road and Station Street were closed to through traffic as French traders set up their stalls selling delicious produce, patisserie and fresh-cooked paella and pancakes. Meanwhile their British counterparts demonstrated the finest Sussex produce and all did a roaring trade.

There was magic galore for children, music throughout the market and along the High Street and enthusiasm was not diminished by the wet weather.

One visitor said: “It was such an awful day that we decided the only place we could have some fun was Heathfield - so we all went along. It was great!”

Work has already started preparing next year’s Le Marche - and hopes are high that the sun might shine in 2015.
