It’s one of the hottest events on the Lewes calendar ... family tickets have all but sold out already.

You have to move fast to witness Tongue and Groove’s ‘Midsummer Madness’ at the Pells Pool on Saturday, June 21.

The five-piece ‘classic rock and psychedelic pop funk machine’ will be supported by talented performers from Starfish Youth Music.

The scene is now set for the popular and loyally-attended celebration of the longest day of the year, which raises funds for Starfish and the Pells itself.

Swimming costumes are at the ready, barbecue coals are set to smoulder and the bar is being fully stocked.

The finale of the evening is always spectacular and 2014 will be no exception. But exactly what form it takes is a closely guarded secret.

Phil ‘The Fox’ Rhodes said: “YouTube does not do this event justice. The live experience is what Tongue and Groove delight in and you must be there to witness our favourite gig of the year supporting two of Lewes’s institutions.

“This wonderful event promises to be our ninth sell-out year, our 150th gig as a band and our best finale yet! ”

Tickets are available from the Pells Pool or from the Union Music Store, Lansdown Place, Lewes – family (2+2) £15, adult £6, child £3. Get them while you can.

Meanwhile the Pells, the oldest outdoor pool in the UK, has teamed up with Brighton Tri Club to give people the chance to try some ‘aquathlon’ events this summer. They involve a 250m swim and then a 3,500m run around the Malling Recreation ground. The events finish back on the Pells lawns with tea, coffee and cake for participants.

Graeme Cox, of the organisers Brighton Tri Club, said: “They are suitable for anyone who is up to the challenge of a swim followed by a run. These events give you a great excuse to get out of the house on a Wednesday evening and enjoy the evening sunshine. The races will be professionally managed using chip timing bands and your results will be published online for you to impress your friends and family.”

The next event is on Wednesday, July 9, for people aged 16 and over. It’s easy to sign up online – http://brightontri.org/gotri

Reassuring those who might be uncertain, Graeme said: “Can you swim 10 lengths of a 25m swimming pool without stopping? Can you run/jog for 20 minutes? If so you are more than capable of completing one of our GoTri events.”
