A professional kennel manager has raised more than £1,000 for a charity which supports bereaved parents.

Sarah English, 26, from Little London Road, Horam, completed the Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours.

She completed the course between Friday and Sunday night in 22 hours, 58 minutes and 15 seconds.

Sarah chose to support SANDS - the charity set up to guide bereaved parents through the devastating loss of a child in late pregnancy and at birth.

Sarah’s dad Steve said: “She supported this charity because her sister, Victoria, lost a little boy, Jacob, after six months of pregnancy.

“SANDS is not very well known but they were wonderful to Victoria and her family.

“They provide a separate room for the couple, organise a funeral and provide a box of memorabilia - all at no cost.

“Not many people know about them but Victoria was given this support at Pembury Hospital.

“I think this is one of the few hospitals which provides this kind of service for parents at a terribly low point in their lives.

“It is an absolutely remarkable charity and really helps people through what is an incredibly difficult time.”

This was the first time Sarah had attempted a challenge like this.

Steve explained that his daughter plays polo during the season and keeps three polo ponies which need regular exercise so she is pretty fit.

She manages the well-known Highlands Kennels at on the A267 near Hellingly.

Sarah’s family, in particular Victoria and Daniel, are extremely proud of her success in achieving such an excellent outcome to this difficult and demanding challenge.

“In doing so,” they said, “She raised £1,207 for a wonderful charity.

People undertaking the gruelling challenge have to contend with difficult weather conditions and rough ground underfoot, plus the problems of travelling from one mountain to another in such a short period of time.
