Three international tennis players - all members of Cross in Hand Tennis Club (CIHLTC) - presided over the official opening of the Club’s newly surfaced courts last month.
June Peck represented Great Britain in the Veteran World Tennis Championships in the Czech Republic and then went on to win a bronze medal in the Ladies’ Doubles at the World Individual Veterans Championships in Austria.
Daniel Little, 16, has played tournaments all over the world. He won his first under 18 International Tennis Federation (ITF) title in Norway and Eleanor Deaves, 19, has just achieved a Women’s Tennis Association world ranking.
CIHLTC has had its two tarmacadam courts resurfaced with artificial clay. This is the preferred surface of the Lawn Tennis Association as it provides the best surface for improving abilities of all age groups whilst being a fantastic surface for playing competitive and social tennis.
Steve Godfrey, CIHLTC chairman, said club members are delighted with the new surface. The club can accept a few more members of any age group and is offering membership until March 2015 for the normal price for 12 months. The Club now runs ‘cardio tennis’ sessions. Steve said: “These are ideal for anyone returning to tennis who wants to improve their game but shies away from competition.” Cardio membership is just £50 a year, refundable if you join the Club proper. For information about joining, facilities, coaching and contact information visit: www.crossinhandtennisclub.co.uk.
