Uckfield Post Office is set to move from its current location in the Crown building at the top of the High Street to the branch of WHSmith.
The current branch will close at 5.30pm on Wednesday, January 29 with the new branch opening on Thursday, January 30.
A Post Office spokesman said this will be a modern, open-plan branch with extended opening hours.
He continued: “The move, which follows a public consultation, is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to ensure that Post Office branches are sustainable, profitable and no longer reliant on Government funding. The modernisation programme will make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern, open-plan environments.”
The decision to close the Crown office was opposed by many townspeople who backed its retention by signing a petition. Their concerns centred on fears services could be reduced, queues would grow and the move would see reduced customer numbers for businesses at the top of the High Street. But the move is set to go ahead and the Post Office assures customer services will get better with longer hours and a more modern environment.
