Kyle Rossi, 17 from Mill Drove, Uckfield, is set to add another string to his bow.
Student, football and tennis coach Kyle has won through to the regional finals of the Teenstar competition - the UK’s only singing competition specifically for teens and pre-teens.
Mum Tanya told the Express UckfieldFM is currently airing a demo Kyle produced.
He will be interviewed on April 3 on the Steve Crow show, where he will sing live.
Kyle was runner-up in the first Uckfield’s Got Talent when he was 11.
He was also part of the group that produced a CD with proceeds going towards the Daniel Gamble fund.
Para and translator Daniel was killed by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2008.
Tanya said: “Kyle is really a sportsman.
“He’s going in for this competition but he’s not aiming for Britain’s Got Talent or anything like that.
“He’s taking Spanish, business studies, economics and PE at A-Level and wants to study international business at university.
“But he coaches tennis at Maresfield and football for the Grasshoppers in his spare time. He’s very laid back!”
Kyle’s musical heroes are Newton Faulkner (who he met recently,) John Legend and he enjoys acoustic guitar.
He sang James’ Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’ for the CD.
The whole Rossi family are achievers.
Kitchen fitter dad Tony is chairman of the Grasshoppers Junior Football Club and lobbied hard to secure funding for the town’s all-weather pitch.
Tanya works as a personal assistant to elderly people needing care.
She said: “It’s the best job in the world.
“I get to visit patients who otherwise would be completely isolated and I feel I can make a difference.”
Kyle is now in the running to follow in the footsteps of previous winner Luke Friend and compete for a place in the grand final.
Thousands of hopefuls entered TeenStar nationwide and hundreds queued patiently on the day for their turn to impress the judges.
Those who made it through will now take part in a live regional head-to-head battle alongside the best talent in their area.
On the evening of the Brighton Regional Final at The Hove Centre, there will be a concert with some previous Open Mic UK and X Factor acts including runner up Jahmene Douglas and Kingsland Road, with support from X Factor’s Giles Potter and Alejandro Fernadez Holt. Tickets are available to purchase now from SeeTickets.
